Laura Lee Vandonge

March 26, 1968 — August 16, 2024

Laura Lee VanDonge became a heavenly angel on August 16, 2024, at age 56, at her home in Topeka, Kansas surrounded by her loved ones. Laura was a lifetime fighter having been born with cerebral palsy and enduring cancer 3 times during her lifetime.

She graduated from Hayden High School in Topeka and received some additional training in the medical field.

She was born on March 26, 1968 to Leonard and Jima (Hope) Smith in Topeka. She married Duane Miller in 1986, they had one son, Dylon of Topeka. They later divorced and she married Rick VanDonge on June 5, 2004.

She was raised and loved by her step-father Richard Morrissey of Donaldson, Georgia, who guided her through the tough years of learning to walk from the effects of cerebral palsy. She was determined not to use a walker or wheelchair which she accomplished.

Laura loved interacting with people and always had a positive attitude and an infectious smile for everyone in the jobs she worked. She worked many years at Kinkos in Topeka and later was a Home Health provider for the elderly. Her latest job before this last cancer, she loved working at Lowes in Topeka, helping customers navigate the self-help cashier system.

She is survived by her husband Rick VanDonge, Topeka; son Dylon Miller and granddaughter Moxy Miller, Topeka; Step-Father Richard Morrissey, Donaldson, Georgia; Grandmother Evelyn Hope, Topeka, brother Jason Morrissey, Topeka; Mother-In-Law, Joyce Neiswender; Sister-In-Law, Kathy (Jerry) Spain and several uncles, aunts, nephews, cousins, and many lifelong faithful friends.

Laura loved animals and is survived by her two cats, Casper and Smoky.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and sister Caressa Nelson.

She and her husband Rick enjoyed many fun trips together on their Harley Davidson bike which she loved. She loved celebrating holidays with her family and especially with her beloved granddaughter Moxy.
