OBITUARY: Larry James Bain
Larry James Bain, 82, Topeka, passed away Sun., April 25, 2010, surrounded by his family and the caring professionals at Midland Hospice House. He was born Dec. 29, 1927, at Schell City, MO, the son of William I. and Jeanette J. (Dailey) Bain. He attended Rockville, MO, schools, automobile mechanic school, and carpenter apprentice school. He was a WW II Navy Veteran having served aboard the USS Hancock. He was a life member of the NRA, and a life member of Philip Billard Post # 1650, VFW. Larry was a carpenter/millwright with Local # 1445 for nearly 60 years. He was married to Loretta A. Bostrom on April 11, 1948, in Topeka. Surviving are his wife: Loretta of the home; a son: Steven M. Bain (Linda) of Valley Falls; a daughter: Debra A. Schroeder (Collin) of Beverly, KS; a sister: Dorothy Schell of Topeka; 4 grandchildren: Matthew J. Bain, Jessie Schroeder, Carrie R. Belveal (Jason), and Katie M. Bain; and great-grandchildren: Ruth E. Bain and Connor W. Belveal. Larry was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Mindy J. Bain, and a brother, Dean Bain. Committal services will be at 1:00 PM, Wed., April 28, 2010, at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW Sixth, Topeka. Military honors will be conducted by a U.S. Navy Honors Detail. Larry will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Tues., at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.
