Larry Dean Hunter, 73, of Meriden, passed away on February 20, 2021 at his home.
He was born on September 29, 1947 to Lawrence and Violet (Holmes) Hunter in Topeka, KS.
Larry served in the United States Army as a Radio Mechanic for 6 years before he was honorably discharged. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Devices, two Overseas Bars, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Medal Marksman (Rifle M-14) and Marksman (Rifle M-16).
Larry worked as a Construction Worker for Herman's Excavating for over 20 years then worked for Schmidtlein Excavating for over 20 years, before retiring.
He was a member of VFW Post 10815. He also raced hobby stock cars with his lifelong friend, Steve Haid at Thunder Hill Speedway for over 20 years. His last car that he raced was number 72L. He loved to fish and watch birds, or work in his garage on the skidsteer or his backhoe. He was an outdoorsman to the fullest.
Larry is survived by his Daughters, Jennifer Nelson, Linda Grant, Stacie (Jeremy) McGuire and, Kelli Eisermann; Brother, Gary Hunter; and 11 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Celebration of Life will be held at the VFW Post 10815 in Meriden at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 27, 2021 with full military honors.
