Larry Dean Kahler
Larry Dean Kahler, 66, Topeka, died Friday, April 2, 2004, at his residence. He was born Sept. 20, 1937, at Del Norte, Colo., the son of George A. and Vera Murray Kahler. He had resided in Topeka most of his life. Mr. Kahler served in the U.S. Navy Seabees from 1955 to 1959. He was a retired meat cutter. He participated in the Senior Olympics in several events, such as softball, track and table tennis. He carried the Olympic Torch through Topeka in 1996. Among his favorite activities were raising, training and showing horses, Labradors and pointers. He was a member of Northland Christian Church. He married Sandra L. Lincoln on Oct. 24, 1965, in Topeka. She survives, of the home. Other survivors include a son, Matt Kahler, Hoyt; a daughter, Michelle Kahler, Warsaw, Mo.; his mother, Vera Kahler, Topeka; three brothers, Bob and Red Kahler, Topeka, and Wayne Kahler, Meriden; a sister, Linda Springer, Topeka; and five grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Penwell- Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence Ave. Private interment of cremains will be in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Kahler will lie in state after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Senior Olympics, 1534 S.W.
