Kevin Neil Kelley, 50, of Topeka, passed away, June 8, 2007 at his home. Kevin was born September 27, 1956 in Aurora, Colorado, the son of Richard O. and Donna L. (Bryan) Kelley.
Kevin graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1974. He graduated from Cloud County Community College in 1976 with an Associate of Arts Degree. In 1982 he graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Science Engineering.
Kevin was CEO, of Kelley Construction Company, Inc. since March of 1992. During his tenure as CEO, Kelley Construction received numerous awards, including the American Public Works Association's National Project of the Year for Historical Restoration for the Great Overland Station Renovation Phases II and III in Topeka. He also was awarded the International Illumination Design Award for Excellence for the FLEX Systems Conditioned Storage project in Topeka. Other projects include the Kansas State High School Activities Association Building, Lee Arena Athletic Center and Booster Club Room, Washburn Rural High School addition and Kansas Super Chief Credit Union.
Kevin was involved in several professional and community activities. Some of them include: Current President of Associated General Contractors of Kansas; member of Sigma Lambda Chi, KSU Construction Science Honorary; KSU Construction Science Scholarship Advisory Committee; Kaw Area Technical School Business Advisory Council; and Associated General Contractors Education and Training Committee. He was part of Leadership Greater Topeka Class of 1998 and the North Topeka Business Alliance. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Ronald McDonald House. Kevin was very involved with his church where he served on the Local Board of Administration. He combined his love of the mountains by organizing numerous father and son backpacking adventures in the Rockies.
He married Debora D. Smith, February 12, 1978 in Concordia, Kansas. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Nathan Kelley and his wife Jamie, Seth Kelley, all of Topeka, his mother and father, Richard O. and Donna L. Kelley, Oberlin, KS; two brothers, Kirk B. Kelley, Ph.D., Davenport, IA and Sheldon, J. and his wife Brenda Kelley, Frederick, CO; two grandchildren Payton Jean Kelley and Mason Kevin James Kelley, Topeka, two nieces and one nephew.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at Fairlawn Heights Wesleyan Church. Interment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
Kevin will lie in state after 12:00 noon until 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel. Kevin will lie in state after 5:00 p.m. at Fairlawn Heights Wesleyan Church 5400 SW Huntoon where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
