Kenneth "Kenny" Bingham, 84, of Topeka, passed away Thursday February 22, 2024.
He was born July 2, 1939, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Marion and Ruth (River) Bingham.
He served in the United States Navy. As a young boy he joined the carnival he recently shared the story of how he jumped out of the school window in 8th grade to join the carnival. When asked why he jumped out the window he stated, "the teacher was to mean and would not let him leave." Over the years he drove trucks, painted and other jobs before settling on the one thing he loved an entrepreneur in sales.
Kenny was a big fisherman. In 1977 he caught a monster largemouth bass weighing 11 lbs. and 12 oz. Setting a record in the state of Kansas. Kenneth held the record for 31 years. He also enjoyed hunting. As his son's disease progressed, he would take him on rides to see geese on the lakes and other wildlife. Marlin enjoyed these trips with his dad. Kenneth cared for his son at home with many caretakers as he became bedridden honoring Marlins wishes to not be put in a home.
Kenny also enjoyed going to garage sales. He was constantly on the lookout for things his family collected angel figurines for great niece, Elvis pictures and figurines for a niece, crosses for a sister. If he knew you collected something he would buy it and bring the items to you.
He was a great cook, often cooking fish, goose with vegetables and jerky to share with family and friends. One of our favorite stories to tell was when he brought fish to his sister Dorothy's for Thanksgiving. As the adults were enjoying deserts the great great- nephews (who were very young at the time) would run through the house grabbing fish to eat as they ran back outside playing. We laughed how the little ones passed on desert for more of uncle Kenny's fish.
Kenneth married Betty Jo Bingham; she preceded him in death November 10, 1987. Kenneth married Martha "Jane" Bingham she preceded him in death on August 13, 1993. He was preceded in death by his beloved son Marlin Eugene Bingham February 20, 2019, step-daughter, Katherine Brooks; six brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his sister Carolyn Ralph and his step-child Vincent Blocker; he is survived by many nieces and nephews.
