Kenneth L. Owensby, 71, Silver Lake, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2021.
He was born December 15, 1949, in Fort Riley, Kansas, the son of Kenneth and Elaine (Countryman) Owensby.
Ken was employed by the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office for 28 years, retiring on December 17, 1999. After he retired, he worked for the Shawnee County District Attorney's Office for 10 years.
Ken was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Kansas Peace Officers Association.
On December 28, 1985, he married Christeen S. Burgett in Silver Lake. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Brian Owensby, Kevin (Kris) Owensby, all of Topeka; two step-sons, Eric Burgett, and Erin Burgett, both of Kansas City, MO; two grandsons, Adrian and Drew Burgett, both of Liberty, MO; and three brothers, Gary Owensby, Overland Park, KS, Ron Owensby, and Wayne Owensby, both of Topeka.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services will be 1 pm, Friday, January 8, 2021 at Prairie Home Cemetery, NW 35th & Menoken Rd, Topeka.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 or Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st, Topeka, KS, 66604.
