OBITUARY: Kenneth Lyman Ticknor
Kenneth L. Ticknor, 94, Topeka, passed away April 17th, two weeks short of his 95th birthday. Born May 1, 1916, in Topeka, Kansas, he was the son of Charles V. Ticknor and Nancy Petty Ticknor.
Mr. Ticknor retired after twenty two years service with the Topeka Health Department where he served in Health Administration. He and his wife, Mary, also enjoyed a successful avocation in real estate. He was a charter member of The Topeka Employee's Credit Union, where he served for five years as president. He also served as financial officer for the Topeka Children and Youth Project, and was a member of Lions Club, Toast Masters, and MODAC, an all male singing group.
Mr. Ticknor was preceded in death by his wife of sixty eight years, Mary L. Jones Ticknor, and by their son, Charles Larry Ticknor, of Oklahoma, and by his sister, Ruth Longstaff, of Topeka. He is survived by a son, Kenneth W. Ticknor, and his wife, Judith, Topeka, a daughter-in-law, Sylvia Ticknor Holmes, Tucson, AZ, and three foster children, Karen Stanley, Stan Stanley, and Tony Stanley, all of Topeka. In addition, he is survived by four grandchildren, Kenneth S. Ticknor, Tammy Rheinsmith, Lisa D'Andrea, and Steven Ticknor, and one foster grandchild, Michelle Stanley. He also leaves a legacy of love to 9 great-grandchildren.
Committal services will be at 10:00 AM, Thurs., April 21, 2011, at Mount Hope Abby Chapel. Mr. Ticknor will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Wed., at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 PM.
