Kenneth L. Bednasek, 87, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2021.
Ken was born February 7, 1934 in Holyrood, the son of John and Rose (Borecky) Bednasek. He graduated from Holyrood Rural Senior High School.
He served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was employed by the Topeka Fire Department for over 30 years, retiring with the rank of District Chief.
He also owned and operated a carpet cleaning business.
After he retired, he volunteered at the Colmery-O'Neal VA Medical Center.
Ken married Marian Harrison on September 13, 1959 in Topeka. His wife of 61 years survives. Other survivors include their children, Shawn (Terri) Bednasek, Mansfield, TX, Brian (Kimberly) Bednasek, St. Cloud, FL, Serena (Cory) Laird, Topeka; 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Alice Bednasek. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Vernon Bednasek.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 30, 2021 at Community Church, 1819 SW 21st. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Fire Department Honor Guard or Antique Fire Apparatus Fund.
