Kenneth Arthur Brown, 66, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013, at his home.
He was born August 17, 1946 in Wichita, KS, the son of Billy LaVern Rosemary Elizabeth (Zezkser) Brown. He was a graduate of Alta Vista High School. He served in the U.S. Army in the tank automotive and armaments command, attaining the rank of Master Sargent.
Mr. Brown was employed by the Rock Island Railroad, later for the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka and most recently was a postal contractor.
Kenneth married Janice Carol DeWeese on August 29, 2005 in Lyndon, KS. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a daughter, Jennifer (Wes) Gordon, Lees Summit, MO; a son, Melvin Parks, Jr., Lebo, KS; a step-son, Jim Meierhoff, Bull Head City, AZ; 6 grandchildren, Brandon, Zachary, and Amber Gordon, and Hunter, Beau and Chase Parks; his father Billy, Dwight, KS; a sister, Barbara Ann Selbe, Wetmore, KS and two brothers, Larry K. Brown, Georgetown, IL and Jack Brown, Dwight, KS. He was preceded in death by his mother.
A graveside military service will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd, Manhattan, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice, 3715 SW 29th St, # 100, Topeka, KS 66614 or Topeka Rescue Mission, 600 N. Kansas, Topeka, KS 66608. Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, Topeka, is assisting the family with arrangements.
