Kay J. McNorton
Kay J. McNorton, 62, Topeka, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka. She was born April 25, 1942, at Junction City, the daughter of Chester A. and Margaret Mae Schmidt Standley. She attended school at Topeka Grade School and graduated from Topeka High School. Mrs. McNorton was a licensed practical nurse who specialized in geriatric health care. Mrs. McNorton served as the chairman of volunteers of the Birthplace at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center. She had been a volunteer at the Medical Center for many years and was also in the Women's Auxiliary. She helped form the Lakeside Swingers Square Dance Club. She was also a member of the Perry Squares Square Dance Club, Santa Fe Square Dance Club and Hendrix Acres (campground at Lake Perry). She attended Lowman United Methodist Church. She married Kenneth J. McNorton on Aug. 23, 1958, in Topeka. He died June 30, 1990. Surviving are a son, Kevin J. McNorton, Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Kandi Jo McNor ton, Long Beach, Calif.; a daughter, Karen Jean Green, Prairie du Chien, Wis.; a brother, Chester "Allan" Standley Jr., Lake Elsinore, Calif; a sister, Margueriete Jeanne Laingren, Ontanogan, Mich.; her stepmother, Betty Monts, and stepsister, Sharon Vincent, Lady Lake, Fla.; and her stepfather, Nolan L. Smallwood, Shelbyville, Mo.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and foster daughters Linda Weaver, Ozawkie, and Elaine Griffith, Delia. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in North Topeka. Inurnment will be private.
