Kathy L. Woodman, 72, of Topeka passed away on July 8, 2024, after a valiant fight with cancer. She was born on August 5, 1951 in Gardner, Kansas to Doyle and Kay Moots. Kathy and her family lived a few years in De Soto before moving to Topeka. She was raised in Topeka and attended school there. Kathy graduated from Seaman High School in 1969 and began her professional career shortly thereafter. In 1983 Kathy was wed to Robert (Bobby) Woodman and with this union she gained three stepsons, Joe, John and David. Kathy and Bobby lived in Topeka throughout the years before settling down in a home they built together on the outskirts of Topeka with some land to enjoy and room for their dogs to run.
Kathy worked several jobs in Topeka including office administrator at Memorial Park Cemetery, data management positions at EDS and Blue Cross and Blue Shield and in the Financial Aid department at Kansas University before retiring as an administrator from the Drug Tax Enforcement Office at the Kansas Department of Revenue in 2019.
Kathy had a large heart and embraced the spirit of giving as evidenced by the piles of candies and snacks she would prepare (with help) for her office at EDS. Kathy would pick up her nieces and nephews; Dawn, Shawn, Shannon, Dustin, Kreig and her stepson David, to host an epic sleepover of cooking, baking, mess making and a lot of sneak eating. It was a special treat to spend this time with Kathy because it was a time of experimenting and fun.
She loved sprint car racing and would make the annual trip to the Knoxville Nationals in Iowa with her parents for many, many years. She and Bobby would always dress in matching sprint car shirts for these races and for really all occasions back home. Knoxville was a place of exciting races, visits to the Pella bakery for cinnamon nut bread and where they stocked up on their matching racing attire.
Kathy loved to bowl and shared that love with anyone that wanted to learn. Throughout her life she bowled in leagues and was a member of many bowling teams, including some with her father, Doyle. Kathy was an avid reader, a fan of the KU Jayhawks, and loved growing and receiving flowers, especially Lilies of the Valley. Right up until the end, you could find her munching on Mentos and drinking Fresca from her favorite green cup. Kathy had a love for music, including Elvis, The Statler Brothers and many other Christian artists. Her CD player in her car was filled with these artists and they were played on shuffle constantly. Kathy had a beautiful voice and played the piano and dulcimer. She had a strong faith in the Lord, which gave her the strength and guidance she needed to face life’s challenges.
She is survived by her stepsons, David, Joe and Jon Woodman of Topeka, her sisters Linn Rodriguez (Stan) of Meriden, Kansas, and Barbara Casto of Topeka; grandchildren including Ashton and Cooper Woodman; several nephews and nieces which include her caregiver Shannon Snook of Topeka; and long-time friend, John Millard, husband of her dear friend Sharon.
Preceding her in death was her husband Bobby in 2019 and her parents Doyle and Kay Moots. Her best friend Sharon, Kathy’s lifetime girls night out companion and shopping buddy, passed away in 2020.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at Parker-Price and Davidson Cremations, Funerals and Receptions. Interment will follow at Half-Day Cemetery north of Topeka. The family will receive friends Monday evening July 15th beginning at
