OBITUARY: Kathryn Elenor Mayfield
Kathryn Elenor Mayfield, 87, Topeka, died Thurs., Sept. 25, 2008, at Topeka Presbyterian Manor. She was born Nov. 15, 1920, at Ava, MO, the daughter of William and Alpha Mae (Hardcastle) Manning. She had lived at Fredonia before moving to Topeka in 1946.
Kathryn's true profession was a homemaker. She also worked in Apartment Management; at Carousel Day Care; and studio art painting. She was a member of Family of God Church, where she and her husband were involved in all aspects of church life. She was an accomplished seamstress.
Kathryn was married to Russel F. Mayfield on Nov. 16, 1936. He preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 2003. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Staci Lynn Rice, in 1971.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law: Delta and Jerry Rice and Carol and Russell D. Morstorf all of Topeka; a son and daughter-in-law: Rev. Rusty and Cheryl Mayfield of Topeka; a sister: Patsy Rice of Omaha, NE; 2 brothers: Rev. Max Manning of Topeka and Billy J. Manning of Highlandville, MO; 7 grandchildren: Lori Taylor of Topeka, R. Scott Morstorf of Auburn, Deana Prescott of Topeka, Brian "B.R." Mayfield of Brighton, England, Shaun Rice of Topeka, Angie Jenkins of Leavenworth, and Tricia Jones of Topeka; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Tues., Sept. 30, 2008, at Family of God Church. Interment in Mount Hope Cemetery. Kathryn will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Mon., at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.
