Katherine L. "Kay" Penick, 87, Topeka, died Thurs., Jan. 24, 2013. Kay was born March 13, 1925, in Topeka, the daughter of Frank and Grace (Palmer) Zahourek. She had lived in Topeka all of her life, attending Topeka Schools and graduating from Topeka High School in 1943.
She had played piano and organ in various dance bands throughout Topeka. Kay worked at Adams Business Forms from Nov., 1949 until early retirement in March, 1985.
Kay was a member of The United Methodist Church, Topeka Assembly # 24, Social Order of the Beauceant, Ladies of Arab Shrine, American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary, and Women of the Moose.
She was married to R.O. Penick in Topeka on April 27, 1985.
Surviving are her husband: R.O. Penick; daughters: Carla Weldon of Denver, CO, and Connie Weldon and Christy Weldon both of Topeka; a step-son: Richard O. "Rick" Penick III of Surprise, AZ; and a sister: Julia Mae Lynch of Salina.
Memorial services will be at 1:00 PM, Mon., Jan. 28, 2013, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka. Private entombment in Penwell-Gabel Mausoleum, 3616 SW Sixth Ave., Topeka. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral chapel.
