Kasey Dawn (Gerdes) Sanders, 40, of Silver Lake, passed away Monday, May 9, 2016, after a long battle with cancer.
She was born January 5, 1976, in St. Joseph, Missouri, the daughter of Ronald Gene and Alrita Mae (Wagner) Gerdes. She was a graduate of Elwood High School, Elwood, KS and attended the University of Kansas.
Kasey was employed by Security Benefit in Topeka.
She was a member of Mother Theresa of Calcutta Catholic Church, Topeka.
Kasey married Jay Sanders on August 17, 2013 in Topeka. He survives of the home. Other survivors include her children, Devin "Tucker" McCaffrey and Lauren Nicole McCaffrey, Silver Lake; her step-children, Kyle Sanders, Topeka, and Monica Sanders and Mayria Sanders, of Meriden; her mother, Alrita M. Wagner and her companion, Gary George, St. Joseph, MO; and her siblings, Heather (Scott) Valler, Olathe, KS, Clinton Gerdes, Lovland, CO and Nicholas Gerdes, Topeka.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Kasey was very active and pro-active in American Cancer Society's Relay For Life. She was very active in her children's activities. She enjoyed the outdoors, running and dancing.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Friday, May 13, 2016 at the Mother Theresa of Calcutta Catholic Church, 2014 NW 46th St., Topeka, KS 66618. Interment will follow at the Walnut Hill Cemetery, North of Silver Lake.
Kasey will lie in state after 5 p.m., Thursday at the church where a Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. The family will receive friends following the rosary until 8 p.m. Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in Topeka is assisting the family.
