Karen Smith, 78, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2020.
She was born June 22, 1942, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Edwin and Frances "Jackie" (Dunlap) Vandiver. She graduated from Seaman High School in 1960.
Karen was employed by the Southwestern Bell Telephone where she retired after 30 years of work.
Karen married Peter "Pete" William Smith on March 25, 1962 in Topeka, at the Second Presbyterian Church.
She loved to play softball in her younger years, and spent most of her retirement participating in her grandchildren's lives. She was an avid photographer of her family.
Survivors include a husband, Peter "Pete" William Smith, sons, Paul (Angela) Smith, Chris (Beth) Smith, and Troy Smith; daughter, Brandy (Sean) Pekarek; 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edwin Vandiver, mother, Frances Vandiver, twin sister, Sharon Gordon, sister, Diane Kabriel, and grandson, Christopher Smith;
The family would like to thank the nursing staff and care givers at Autumn Home Plus for the care they gave Karen the past year. Also a special 'thank you' to Sandy Lesser.
Karen will lie in state after 1:00 pm Tuesday, December 22, 2020, till 5:00 p.m. The family will receive guests from 5:00 p.m. till 6:30 p.m. at Parker Price Funeral Home.
A Graveside Service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the Rochester Cemetery, 1200 NW Menninger Rd., Topeka.
