Karen F. Hurst

Karen F. Hurst, age 78, of Topeka, formerly of Overland Park, KS, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Gardens of Aldersgate in Topeka. Karen was born September 4, 1943 in Providence, RI.  Her parents were Hugh and Roylan (Parker) Bryan. She graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School.  She then continued her education at the University of Kansas and Johnson County Community College, earning a degree in Nursing.  Karen was a committed registered nurse for over 35 years at Olathe Medical Center where she always put the patients’ needs first.

Karen was preceded in death by her sister, Leslie Gray.  She is survived by two sons, Benjamin (Tracey Richards) Hurst of Lakewood, OH and Bryan (Julie Kermmoade) Hurst of Lincoln, NE; a daughter, Jacquelyn (Robert Brunke) Hurst of Topeka; a sister, Marti Janssen of Arizona; a proud grandmother of eight grandchildren,  Emily, Lewis, Jamie, Jodie, Jenny, Avalon, Gustyn and Macklin; and three great grandchildren, Alex, Kasik and Leia.

Karen was a loving and dedicated mother and an amazing grandma.  She loved her plants and gardening.  She enjoyed her pets over the years.  She was a world traveler.  Karen's favorite place to visit was Isla Mujeres (Island of Women) in Mexico.  She loved the people, the beaches, and especially the sunsets.

No services are planned at this time. The family welcomes donations to your local humane shelter, as an expression of sympathy instead of flowers.
