Juanita M. Peel, 93, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at a Topeka hospital. She was born October 18, 1924 in Cummings, Kansas, the daughter of Thomas B. and Rose E. (Launer) Laird.
Juanita graduated from Ozawkie High School and attended business college in Kansas City, Missouri.
She had resided in Topeka since 1946. She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church (New Hope), the Knapsackers, Red Dale and Sunchasers Camping Clubs and the Goodyear Retirees Club.
Juanita married Charles Albert Peel, Jr. on April 20, 1946 in Ozawkie, Kansas. He preceded her in death on May 25, 2001.
Survivors include their children, David E. (Deni) Peel of Lenexa, Kansas, Donna R. Curfman of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, three grandchildren, Jennifer Curfman, Andrew (Krystle) Curfman, Devon Peel, four great-grandchildren, Landon, Layton, Kelsie and Kylie and her brother, Carol G. (Edna Mae) Laird of Topeka.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Juanita will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Friday, January 19, 2018 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Topeka Civic Theater, 3028 SW 8th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66606 or to New Hope United Methodist Church, 2915 SW 8th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66606.
