JT Calhoun

JT Calhoun passed away on March 28th 2025. He was born to James Taylor (Jim) Calhoun Sr and Elsie Pearl Calhoun on December 24th 1930 in Wainwright OK the youngest of 5 children. His parents and siblings preceded him in death.

The family lived in Oklahoma until JT was 13 years old, then moved to Goddard KS in 1944 when Jim took a job at a broom factory for the blind in Wichita KS.   JT went to work for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad at age 17 as a laborer. He worked there until January 1992, some 45 years, except for 2 years spent in the military.

On November 11th 1950 he married Cartha Maxine Dalton. They were married 54 years until her death on December 29th 2004. JT and Cartha had three sons, Dwight (Rhonda), Douglas (Amy), and Curtis (Vanessa). He had 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 of his grandchildren.

On May 10th 1958 JT and Cartha were baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and remained so all their lives. In 1972 he was appointed as an Elder and remained so until his death.

One of JT’s greatest pleasures was gardening. While he was healthy you could always find him tending to his flower beds and the few vegetables he liked to grow.

His Memorial will be April 18th at 2:00 PM at the Shawnee Meadows Kingdom Hall 2701 SE Croco Rd Topeka KS. It can also be viewed via Zoom ID 759 737 009, password 703336.
