Joyce Emily Stockton
Joyce Emily Stockton, 92, Topeka, died Saturday, February 22, 2014. She was born October 20, 1921, at Liberal, the daughter of Thomas Albert and Nettie Elizabeth (Williams) Clopp. She was reared in Eureka and moved to Topeka in 1947.
She retired from Highland Park High School, Topeka Public Schools. Her first retirement years were spent in Yuma, Arizona, returning to Topeka 14 years ago and making her home at Drury Place where she assumed the role as volunteer activities director. She was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church.
She was married to Walter Lorne Stockton on February 12, 1944, in Eureka. He preceded her in death on December 16, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Jean Kester.
Surviving are her children: John Walter Stockton (Bonnie) of Plainfield, IL, Rev. Francis Eugene Stockton (Donna) of Ozawkie, David "Butch" Alan Stockton (Sheila) of Topeka, and Janetta Leigh Araiza (Jeff) of Topeka; a brother: Noland "Al" Clopp (Gail) of Reno, NV; eleven grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren with number seventeen expected in August.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, February 27, 2014, at Lowman United Methodist Church. Private interment of cremains will be in West Lawn Memorial Gardens, 820 SW Auburn Road, Topeka, Kansas.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 AM, Thursday, at the church.
