Joseph Glen "Joe" Waterworth, 89, Topeka, died Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at Stormont-Vail Hospital. He was born September 18, 1926, at Ottawa, IL, the son of Charles Richard and Emma Mary (Burkhart) Waterworth.
Joe served in the U.S. Army for 10 years and in the U.S. Air Force for 11 years, serving in World War II, the Korean Conflict, and Vietnam. After retirement from the military he was a custodian, retiring from U.S.D. 501. He was a Life Member of Topeka North Post 400 of the American Legion, the only member who served in three wars.
Joe was married to Dorothy Edith (Lowery) Duncan on September 30, 1960, at Mountain Home, ID. She preceded him in death on February 13, 1991. He was also preceded in death by his parents, sisters Almeda and Hazel; brothers Alfred, Charles, Robert, LeRoy, Frank, Elmer, and Bill.
Surviving are children: Joey Waterworth (Kitty) of Roseville, CA, Barbara Keating-Cisneros (Fred) of Aurora, CO, Glenda J. Bush (John) of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, and Duane Waterworth of Topeka; step-daughter: Irene L. Luoto (J.C.) of Coquille, OR; 15 grandchildren: Tina, James, J.W., Brent, Mike, Sean, Jennifer, Craig, Jason, Emily, Derek, Kelsi, Ryan, Logan, and William; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be at 1:00 PM, Monday, November 23, 2015, at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1800 SW Stone, Topeka. The family will receive friends a half hour prior to the service. Topeka North Post 400 of the American Legion will conduct military honors. Private interment of his ashes will be at a later date.
