OBITUARY: Joseph Donald Biggs, Sr.
Joseph Donald "Don" Biggs, Sr., 81, Rossville, died Thurs., Jan. 27, 2011, at his home. Mr. Biggs was born Jan. 20, 1930, at Lee's Summit, MO, the son of Joseph Wayne Biggs and Beulah May Asbury Biggs. He spent much of his life in and around the Kansas City area where Don helped his parents and grandparents run the family farm and other businesses. Don was retired from the State of Kansas where he was the Physical Plant Manager for KNI. Prior to working for the State, he owned and operated the Phillips 66 Station at I-70 & Wanamaker for many years. Don served in the US Army from 1946 to 1948. He was married to Alyce Marie Bolan of Topeka on Dec. 4, 1962. She preceded him in death. He was previously married to Joyce Spencer, of Kansas City, on June 10, 1950. Don was a member of the Good Sam's and Kansas Knapsackers Camping Clubs. He attended the Rossville Christian Church. Survivors include six daughters, Sandra Russell, Debra Hillburn, Carla Cruse, Sherry Steinberg, Cindy Atkins, and Karen Larson, seven sons, Joseph Donald Jr., Ricky, Charles, and Curtis Biggs, Raymond, Robert, and Richard Bolan. Don is also survived by a sister, Barbara Blankenship, two brothers, Robert and Danny Biggs. He has many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at the Rossville Christian Church, Tues., Feb. 1, 2011, at 10:30 AM. A private inurnment will follow. Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel is assisting the family.
