Joseph Eugene Amon, 78, of Hoyt, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2024 after a lengthy and hard-fought battle with cancer.
Joe was born on January 8, 1946, in Netawaka, Kansas. He was the son of Oscar H. and Lyda S. Amon. He graduated from Netawaka High School in 1964. Joe served in Viet Nam and for the United States Army until his honorable discharge in 1971. He spent 30 years in the auto body business, followed by 20 years as a welder for McPherson Construction. He loved to work!
Joe married his love, Donna (“Ralphie”), on January 5, 1972. She survives in their home. Other survivors include their seven children, Cathy Wade of Topeka, Connie (Mike) Brooks of Ft. Worth, TX, Robert (Jackie) Stirton of Independence, MO, Greg (Cathy) Stirton of Topeka, Russell Stirton of Topeka, Darla (Scott) Hayes of Topeka, and Brandy (Gaylen) Garinger of Lawrence, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Chester (Diana) Amon of Lewis, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Bradley Brooks, and granddaughter Morgan Stirton.
Joe was “a friend’s friend”. If anyone ever needed anything, he was the guy that showed up. He could fix anything! He was a good listener and often shared his advice for any situation. He and Donna enjoyed years of cutting a rug on the dance floor. He loved cutting wood and giving to friends, shooting sporting clays and playing cards. Mostly, he loved to spend time with his many friends and family.
