Jon "Sha mog gin" Cooper, 44, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009 at his home.

He was born September 10, 1964 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, the son of the late Walter E. and Augustine (Mitchell) Cooper. Survivors include two brothers, Gary and Ross Cooper both of Topeka; aunts, Catherine Cooper Simon, Topeka, Phyllis Mitchell Flores, El Paso, TX; nieces Ashley and Jessica YoungBird, Melinda Cooper Williamson and Michelle Cooper Emmert. He was preceded in death by a brother, Phil Cooper and sister, Rita Cooper YoungBird.

Jon was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and proudly served six years in the Marines. He worked for Rolling Hills Retirement Community and the Topeka VA Hospital. He also served in various contract labor positions.

He started playing guitar at the age of three. He also played drums and bass guitar. Jon and his brother Gary formed a rock/blues band "Blue Feather". They performed regularly in the NE Kansas area. He will be missed by his 4 great-nephews, Jaiden, Preston, Ian and Eli and great-niece, Halina.

The family w1ill receive friends from 6-7 p.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Our Lady of Snow Church, Mayetta, KS. Inurnment of cremains will follow at Ship-Shee Cemetery.
