John Wilbur James Sr.
Former Lecompton resident John Wilbur James Sr., 95, of Katy, Texas, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, in Katy. He was born Feb. 10, 1908, in Enterprise, W. Va., the son of David John and Elizabeth C. (Gamble) James. He had lived in Pennsylvania and Lecompton, Kan., before moving to Texas. A retired millworker, Mr. James enjoyed traveling the country by bus and rail. He was a member of Trinity Apostolic Faith Church of Katy. He married Mary Estochen on July 21, 1934, in Greensburg, Pa. She preceded him in death on July 4, 1994. Surviving are two sons, John W. James Jr., Katy, and David C. James, Topeka; a daughter, Marlene E. Hackathorn, Lecompton; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Parker Price Mortuary. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Lecompton. Mr. James will lie in state after 1 p.m Monday at Parker-Price Mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday.
