John Arthur Vinsonhaler, 69, of Topeka, Kansas, passed into the arms of Jesus on June 29, 2024 at Midland Care Hospice House.
John was born July 11, 1954 to Floyd "Arthur" and his wife Earlene (Rathbun) Vinsonhaler. He was raised in Smith County, Kansas and started school in Bellaire graduating from Smith Center High School in 1972.
John married Vivian Kugler on April 15, 1976 in Smith Center.
John loved cars, especially ones built by American Motors Corporation. Upon graduation, he attended an autobody repair school and did body work for several years. After he was no longer able to do body work due to health issues, he had several occupations in Smith and Shawnee Counties including road maintenance, tire store manager, lumber sales, and manager of Diamond Vogel Paints.
He loved to tinker with miscellaneous things and making them into prize possessions. He made a fishing lure out of a piece of bark his grandson, Mike, found on the school playground as well as lures out of bottle caps. He loved woodworking, finding great joy in the wooden crosses he made for family and friends. In his later years, enjoyed giving everyone rides on his trackless train, the Kaw Valley Express, which put smiles on the faces of young and old. He was baptized at Northland Christian Church and his faith grew stronger as the years passed.
John is survived by his loving wife, Vivian, son Jason (Melissa), grandsons Jimmy, Mike and Tommy, brother Roger (Joan) of Smith Center, sister Marjorie (Jim Park) of Smith Center, nieces and nephews and many friends including Dallas Wood (Jenny) of Bern. and Greg Herd (Melissa) of Topeka. The family would like to thank the staff at Kelly House in Meriden for the tender, loving care they gave John and the staff at Midland Hospice House in his final days.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2024 at Parker-Price & Davidson Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, KS 66608. The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service. Burial to follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens in Topeka.
