John Sosa


John Gomez Sosa, 45, Topeka, died Wednesday, Oct.16, 2002, in Topeka.
Mr. Sosa was employed by the Kansas Army National Guard as a property book officer. He recently completed more than 25 years of military service. He was awarded numerous military awards and decorations, including the Army Service Award,Army Commendation Achievement Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Education Services Ribbon, Army Achievement medal with one oak leaf cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Army Reserve Achievement medal with four Bronze stars, Armed Forces Reserve medal with Hourglass Device, National Guard Service Medal with three Sunflower Devices and the Kansas National Guard Commendation Ribbon.
He was born Feb.18, 1957, in St.Johns, Newfoundland, the son of Raymond Joseph Gomez and Kimi Kato Sosa. He lived most of his life in Topeka and graduated from Highland Park High School and from Officer Candidate School at the Kansas Regional Training Center in Salina. He attended Basic Officer Training at Fort Sill, Okla., and Advance Officer Training in Artillery at Fort Sill Okla.
Mr. Sosa was a member Qf the Kansas National Guard Associations, both officer and enlisted.
He married Pam Goodman on Dec.22, 1979, in 0verland Park. They were divorced. He later married Kari Williams. They also were divorced.
Survivors include his mother, Kimiko Sosa, Topeka; a son, Kyle Sosa, Topeka; a daughter, Kayla Sosa, Topeka; a sister, Maria Okamitsu, Topeka; a brother, Joseph Sosa, address unavailable; and a companion, Julie Kempel, Topeka.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Parker-Pnce Mortuary. Committal services will be at a later date.
