John Francis Olson went to be with the Lord peacefully on Saturday, January 20, 2018, he was 89 years old. John was born on July 6, 1928 in Topeka, Kansas. John's wife, Marilyn Jean Olson, of 62 years preceded him in death in 2013. John and Marilyn met as youngsters and grew up together in Silver Lake, Kansas. They were married on March 22, 1951. The Korean War in which John honorably served in the Armed Forces and Reserves from 1950 to 1957 only separated them once in their entire marriage.
John and Marilyn eventually moved from Kansas to Columbia, Missouri in 1962, and their family grew when their pride and joy, son Kevin Leigh was born. In 1971 John and Marilyn were on the road again, moving from Columbia to Tempe, Arizona, where they made their life long home. John was employed with State Farm Insurance Company for many years and retired early, allowing him and Marilyn to spend and enjoy more time together.
John loved watching sports, especially attending and watching Kevin and his friends play softball. As well, together John and Marilyn enjoyed numerous professional sports venues. John and Marilyn loved to socialize and had many friends. John, an impatient sort of a fellow with an awesome smile and laugh, was a good man and beloved by his family and friends in so many ways, especially respected by his coffee group friends.
Throughout his life, John demonstrated faith, courage and love for his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind, his son, Kevin, daughter-in-law, Cathy, younger brother, Kenneth Dale and sister-in-law Elaine and the great joy of his life, granddaughter Valentina.
