John Murrell
John Milton Murrell, 84, Topeka, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at a Topeka retirement home.
He was born Aug. 11, 1918, in Topeka, to James Howard and Edna Pearl Slaybaugh Murrell, and attended Topeka public schools. He was a chef for Hoofer's Dinner House in Topeka for many years. He also worked at Robbie's Restaurant and later was manager of the delicatessen at Falley's Market in White Lakes Shopping Center.
He was a life member of Kansas Avenue United Methodist Church.
He married Sarah E. Randolph on June 2, 1939, in Topeka. They operated a restaurant in two locations in Topeka for several years. She survives. A great-grandson, Jaryd Osterhaus, preceded him in death in July 1996.
Other survivors include two sons, J. David Murrell, Topeka, and Kenneth L. Murrell, Milton, Fla.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Parker-Price Mortuary. Inurnment will be private. Relatives and friends will meet after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
