OBITUARY: John Milburn Emmert
John Milburn Emmert, 92, Topeka, KS, died Thurs., Jan. 19, 2012, at Midland Hospice House. He was born Dec. 14, 1919, at Salem, NE, the son of Letha B. (Crook) and Virgil L. Emmert, Sr. John worked as an inspector for North American Aviation during World War II; as a sales rep for Elfman Marine; an insurance agent for Mutual Service Insurance; and as a Century 21 Real Estate Agent. He had lived in Wisconsin before moving to Topeka in March, 2000. John was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church, Golden Rule Lodge # 90 AF & AM (current Chaplain); Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies (K.C.C.H.); Topeka York Rite Bodies; St. Augustine Conclave RCC; Arab Shriners (Antique Unit and Hospital Dads); Media Grotto; High Twelve; and Square and Compass. He was a Past Master of Frontier Lodge # 45 F & AM of La Crosse, WI, and Capital City Daylight Lodge # 454 AF & AM of Topeka. John was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and son, David. Surviving are a son: Virgil H. Emmert (Michele) of Lewisville, TX; step-daughter: Sharon Emery of Holmen, WI; brother: Virgil L. Emmert (Marjorie) of Topeka; sister: Velda June Knowles (Leonard) of Elkhorn, NE; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Wed., Jan. 25, 2012, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, KS, followed by Scottish Rite Rose Croix Services. Masonic graveside services will be at 2:30 PM, at Maple Cemetery, Salem, NE. John will lie in state after 3:00 PM Tues., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to K.U.
