John L. Meier died December 27, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 27, 1927 at Holton, Kansas to Henry and Augusta (Conrade) Meier. He enlisted in the US Navy and served in the Pacific region until discharge in 1946. On January 7, 1948, he married Mary L. Robison. They celebrated their 65th anniversary last January. John worked in the meat and grocery business until retirement, in 1991.
Survivors are his wife of 66 years, Mary L. (Robison), children Cathy Stenger, Alan (Michelle) Meier, Patricia (Gene) Rudolph. Grandchildren Matt (Glynda) Stenger, Dustie Nitcher, Kelby Stenger, Danielle (Jenn) Zook, Adam (Kristina) Capps, and Noah Meier. Great grandchildren Samantha, Dalton, Mattison, Malachi, Terry, Kailey, and Jase. Sister, Mary Ann Schaefer and brother, Charles (Evon) Meier and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was pre-deceased by his son, Arthur Leon Meier in 1978, his parents, brothers, Eugene, Sylvester (WWII), Virgil, Floyd, and sister, Geneva.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, January 3, 2014, at Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church. Interment of cremains in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW Sixth Avenue, Topeka, with Military Honors by US Navy Detail. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM, Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.
