John "Dale" Horton, 87, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the Midland Hospice House.
He was born September 22, 1925 in Madison, KS the son of Tracy Marion and Irena Mae (Robinson) Horton. He was a 1943 graduate of Lebo High School, Lebo, KS and Clark's Business School in Topeka. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II.
Mr. Horton was employed by Rock Island Motor Transit and PIE Truck Line, retiring in 1987. After retirement, he was a courier for Kaw Valley Bank in Topeka.
He was a member of the University United Methodist Church and Capitol Post No. 1 of American Legion of Topeka.
Dale married Melba Jones on February 25, 1950 in Topeka. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a daughter, Debra (Doug) Glenn, Topeka; two grandchildren, Adam (Robbyn) Glenn and Carrie (Jonathan) Goodman; two great-grandchildren, Gavin Glenn and Colton Goodman; and a sister, Darlene Orndorff. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Elbert Horton and two sisters, Geraldine Dawson and Leta Garrison.
A funeral ceremony will be 11 a.m., Monday, January 14, 2013 at the University United Methodist Church, 1621 SW College Ave., Topeka, KS 66604. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. A graveside service will be 3 p.m., Monday at the Antioch Cemetery, Marshall County, KS. Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, Topeka is assisting the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the University United Methodist Church, Topeka Rescue Mission, 600 N.
