John G. Ingenthron

John "Gary" Ingenthron

John "Gary" Ingenthron, 69, Meriden, died Sunday, July 12, 2015. He was born February 11, 1946, in Topeka, the oldest son of John Joseph and Sylvia (Meek) Ingenthron. Gary grew up in the Topeka and Grantville area, graduated from Hayden High School 1964, Washburn University 1970, and Penn State University 1972.

Gary worked for the State of Kansas at Kansas Neurological Institute while a student at Washburn, Parsons State Hospital after his Masters from Penn State, retiring from the Kansas Department of Aging in 2008. He also worked 10 years at the North Dakota State Hospital in Jamestown, North Dakota.

He married Donita Lytle March 22, 1969, in Winfield. She survives along with their two children, Malayna Pedersen (Derek), Salt Lake City, Utah, and John "Nicholas" Ingenthron, Blue Springs, Missouri, and grandchildren Caden and Chloe Pedersen. Also surviving are his brother, Michael Ingenthron (Carol), Grantville, and sister, Rita Hiebsch (Steve), Topeka, five nieces, three nephews, seven great-nieces, and twelve great-nephews.

Gary's career path was heavily influenced by his work at KNI, becoming an advocate for quality care and treatment of persons with cognitive, emotional, and aging challenges.

Gary enjoyed golf, and fishing during annual family vacations to Minnesota, vacations to Florida to visit his daughter's family, and spending time with family and friends. His retirement was challenged by chronic health problems, including heart problems, diabetes and Parkinson's.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 16, 2015, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Newman, Jefferson County, Kansas.

Gary will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Wednesday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM.
