John Dennis Myers

John Dennis Myers, 82, died Sunday, July 27, 2014, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. He was born June 25, 1932, in Topeka, the only child of Dennis Henry and Roberta Aldeen (McComas) Myers.

He attended Seaman Schools, graduating from Seaman High School in 1950. He attended Washburn University. John served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was wounded in Korea, receiving the Purple Heart. He retired from Cook, Flatt, and Strobel Engineers, after 30 years of service. He was a member of First Christian Church and Siloam Lodge # 225, AF & AM. He was a long-time member of Arab Shriners, having served as Unit Director of the Directors' Staff, and was a member of the Topless Unit. He was active in the Shrine Bingo. John had also been a member of the Royal Order of Jesters Court # 125 and Order of Quetzalcoatl, Cholula Number 8.

John was married to Betty Jane Tice on October 24, 1952, in Topeka. He was preceded in death by a son, Randall Lee "Randy," on May 7, 1993.

Surviving are his wife: Betty of the home; children: Sheree Gomez of Topeka, Sheila Lewis (John) of Topeka, and Jim Myers (Peter) of Oklahoma City, OK; five grandchildren: Kyle McDonald, Bryan McDonald (Angie), Brad Lewis, Mayme Gomez, and Brittany Lewis; and five great-grandchildren: Sailor McDonald, Camryn McDonald, Nicholas McDonald, Davin McDonald, and Trey Hester.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka, Kansas, with military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Children's Hospitals Travel Fund c/o Arab Shriners, 1305 South Kansas Avenue, Topeka, KS 66612-1332.
