OBITUARY: John C. Michaelson
John C. MIchaelson, a life-long Topekan, died Wednesday December 14, 2011 in his 86th year at St. Francis Health Center. He worked as a Timekeeper, Statistician and Assistant Chief Clerk in the Topeka Shops of the Santa Fe Railroad, retiring in 1987 after 43 years. He was a Veteran of WWII and member of American Legion Post 400, served on the board of the Super Chief Credit Union (now Envista), and was affiliated with Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. He is survived by Carrie, his wife of 56 years; sons Rick (Kristi) of Topeka and Kris (Valerie) of Kingston, Ontario; granddaughters Hannah, Ceilidh and Charis, also of Kingston; sister Marge Williams of Topeka; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother George (Ceona, and Alan Michaelson, also of Topeka, survive). Service will be held Monday December 19th at 1pm in the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence; burial will follow immediately at Topeka Cemetery, with military honors conducted by Post 400. John will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Sunday, at the funeral chapel.
