John A. Kurtz

John A. Kurtz, 79, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at home.
He was born June 2, 1929 in Lillis, KS, the son of John Henry and Orpha (Tryon) Kurtz. He served in the United States Army during WW II.

He was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, retiring after 35 years. He was a member of the Rubber Workers Union, Local #307, Flint Hill Chapter of the Old Time Fiddlers and Pickers.

John married Marjorie Jeffries on January 22, 1949 at Cottonwood Falls, KS. She preceded him in death on May 15, 1986. He later married Lorena Jones. She survives. Other survivors include his sons, John J., George, Michael, and Tim Kurtz; two daughters, Debra Hope, and Pam Thompson; his step-daughter, Lori Quackenbush; his brothers, Dale, Don, and Hank Kurtz; his sister, Jan Brown; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Monday, 18, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Perry, KS. Mr. Kurtz will lie in state after 3 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 4-5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to charity of the donor's choice.
