OBITUARY: Joan Gloria Heckathorn Smith
Joan Gloria (Heckathorn) Smith, 60, of Fredonia, KS died Friday, July 8, 2005 following recent surgery. She was born April 8, 1945 at Topeka the daughter of Clyde R. and Sylvia (Guyot) Heckathorn.
She was raised in Topeka moving in 1984 to LaCrosse for 2 years; Randolph for 6 years; Cimarron for 6 years and had lived at Fredonia for the past 7 years. She attended the Fredonia United Methodist Church and was a member of the Fredonia Scrapbooking Club and the Fredonia Booster Club. Joan was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.
Surviving are her husband of 42 years: Thomas Paul Smith of the home, Fredonia; 2 daughters: Tiffany Smith-Birk of Denison and Tammy Broadbent of Topeka; 2 sons: Troy P. Smith of Independence, KS and Todd E. Smith of Topeka; her mother: Sylvia Heckathorn of Topeka; 2 sisters: Jackie McCormick of Idaho and Sharlene Rogers of Topeka; a brother: C.W. Heckathorn of Pretty Prairie, KS; and 10 grandchildren: Kristen Pulaski, Tayla Agnew, Thomas R. Smith, Alice Smith, Tucker Smith, Lauren Everts, Treyson Gates-Smith; Trevor Smith, Tyce Broadbent, and Tori Broadbent.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 11, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence, North Topeka. Mrs. Smith will lie in state after 12:00 noon Sunday at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday
