Joan Hicks

Joan Hicks, a good and faithful servant to her Creator and Savior, age 80, formerly of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018 in Ashland, Missouri. Joan was born August 21, 1937 in Axtell, Kansas the daughter of Lawrence Burke and Evelyn Robinson Burke. Joan graduated from Axtell High School in 1955 where she was a cheerleader. She then attended cosmetology school in St. Joseph, MO. She was a longtime member of the Open Way Church in Topeka and a current member of the Community Church in Topeka. Joan was a foster grandparent and a senior companion. She volunteered at the Christian Center in Topeka. Joan loved attending garage sales. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Ronnie Hicks Jr. She is survived by four sons, Garry Anderson of Topeka, Melvin (Mary) Hicks of Ashland, MO, Ronnie (Gloria) Hicks of Kansas City, MO and Jimmy (Kathryn) Hicks of Topeka; three daughters, Kaiden Barraclough of Kansas City, MO, Deborah Rodriguez of Carbondale and Candy Lewis of Carbondale; a sister, Micky Gallagher of Pennsylvania; 14 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, February 19, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Community Church in Topeka. She will lie in state Sunday from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. with visitation from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
