Joan Elizabeth Hahn, 82, of Topeka and Kansas City passed away Sunday May 13, 2018 at her home surrounded by family.
Joan was born in Salem MA, April 4, 1936 to Evelyn and Ashton Danforth. She attended nursing school at Salem Hospital School of Nursing. After graduation, she joined the Air Force as a nurse where she met and married Gordon Maynard Hahn Sr. on February 12, 1961, at Whiteman Air Force Base. In 1967 Joan left the Air Force as a Captain to start and raise a family. She continued her nursing career with the VA Hospital in Topeka where she retired in 1997.
Joan is survived by her two children Gordon Hahn Jr with his wife Christy Jones and Sandra Peine with her husband J.J. Peine; eleven grandchildren: Joshua and his wife Tayler, Morgan, Tanner, Zack, Jensen, Brian, Logan, Jordon, Chelsey, Dominick and Kimber; four great-grandchildren: Alexis, Ryder, Fallyn and Brylee; a sister Dorothy O’Brien with her husband James and a brother William Danforth with his wife Mary along with many other relatives and friends.
Joan is preceded in death by her husband Gordon Hahn Sr. and both parents.
Celebration of Life will be on Friday May 18, 2018 from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at Davidson Funeral home in Topeka. Church service will be held the following morning at Calvary Lutheran Church in Topeka Saturday May 19th at 10:30 followed by graveside service at Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka. Our family will then be hosting a social gathering to follow the ceremony at the Norseman in Topeka.
Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church, 4211 NW Topeka Blvd. Topeka KS 66617. Pastor Ockree was kind enough to visit Joan on a monthly basis, even in Kansas City, when she became unable to attend services. She greatly appreciated their service to her during her time of need.
