Jimmy E. Rogers, 78, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018.
He was born December 22, 1939 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Vernon Lee and Virginia Marie (Ostrander) Rogers. He was raised in the Elmont Community. He was a 1957 graduate of Seaman High School. He served in the U.S. Navy. He married Sharlene (Heckathorn) Rogers; they later divorced.
Jimmy was employed by Santa Fe Railroad for 11 years and later worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, retiring after 30 years. With his son he owned and operated Northland Auto Salvage. After retired, he worked for Meier's Ready Mix for several years.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 26 years, Jean Maxwell, Topeka; a daughter, Stephanie Konrade; a son, Tadd E. Rogers; a step-daughter, Cathie (Tom) Wiley, all of Topeka; three granddaughters, Carleigh, Cedar Falls, IA; Camile and Jacey Konrade, both of Topeka; three step-grandchildren, Seth Wiley and partner Madeline Farron, Ann Arbor, MI; Marissa (Ben) Mumford, Brooklyn, NY and Jillian Wiley, Topeka; his mother, Virginia Rogers, Topeka; and a brother, Lee (Suzette) Rogers, Mayetta and sister-in-law, Jan Rogers, Topeka and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Keith Rogers; a sister, Juanita Manis; and a step-granddaughter, Gabriel Wiley.
Jimmy loved his family, friends, and car racing-especially sprint car racing.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral service at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel. Interment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. Jimmy will lie in state on Friday until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Family suggests memorial contributions to be made to Midland Hospice or Helping Hands Humane Society or to a charity of the donor's choice.
