Jim Perkins, 74, of Topeka, passed away on January 14, 2018 following complications from Parkinson's disease.
He was born on September 4, 1943 in Hutchinson, KS to John and Vera Perkins.
He grew up in Plevna, KS and graduated from Fairfield High School, and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Washburn University.
He married Delores Staats on June 6, 1962. She preceded him in death on June 24, 1996. He later married Lynn Haynes on September 6, 1998 in Topeka, KS.
Jim worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a District Manager of Network Engineering. He retired after 27 years of service in 1991.
He is survived by wife, Lynn Perkins, of Topeka; children, Randy (Dianne) Perkins, Rick (Kim) Perkins, Tammy (Joe) Stallbaumer, Catherine (Bruce) Morgan, and Fred (Emily) Hartman; a sister, Ruth Ann (Pete) Dunham; grandchildren, Andrew (Becca) Perkins, Adam (Danielle) Perkins, Kaitlyn Perkins, Joseph Perkins, Mitchell Perkins, Paul (Maddy) Stallbaumer, Ryan Stallbaumer, Rob Stallbaumer, Marshall Morgan, Kendra Morgan, and Eleanor Hartman; two great-grandchildren, Patrick Stallbaumer, and Fulton Stallbaumer.
Jim was an avid woodcarver, and was a member of Kaw Valley Woodcarvers Association. He enjoyed working on his 1963 Oldsmobile Jetfire, and liked to participate in car shows. He established www.oldsjetfire.com, a national registry for Jetfire enthusiasts. Jim also enjoyed every activity that his grandchildren were involved in.
Jim will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel. Burial will follow in Rochester Cemetery.
