It is with heavy hearts yet a profound sense of hope in the grace of our Lord that we announce the passing of Jim, affectionately known as "Buddy" Cain, who departed this earthly realm on December 28, 2024, at the age of 82 in Topeka, Kansas. Born on July 16, 1942, Muncie, Kansas, Jim lived a life marked by love, dedication, and faith.
Jim devoted over 40 years of his life to serving as an Earthmover for Goodyear, where he built not only a career but a legacy of hard work and integrity. His retirement was a testament to his unwavering commitment and exemplary service.
An alumnus of Valley Falls High School, class of 1962, Jim cherished knowledge. He was revered within his family as the main historian, possessing a passionate interest in genealogy that kept the rich stories of his lineage alive. His love for maps reflected a spirit of adventure and discovery, a passion he enjoyed sharing with family and friends.
Jim was a firm believer, actively engaging with his church communities over the years, first as a member of Terra Heights Baptist Church and subsequently at Fellowship Bible Church. His involvement in the Men's Group, Share Fest, and various community initiatives revealed a man dedicated to serving others and glorifying God’s name through action.
He found joy in sports, with unwavering loyalty to the Royals, K-State, and the KC Chiefs. Jim cherished family time—be it vacations to Branson or the warmth of family reunions and high school gatherings. His heart was ever open to sharing moments with loved ones, and he embodied the essence of family devotion. He was very active in following his kid’s and grandkids’ sporting events.
Jim is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Carolyn (Hinton) Cain, with whom he exchanged sacred vows on April 17, 1970, in the First Assembly of God Church in Topeka. His loving legacy continues through his children, Carrie (Tim) Carey and Jamison Cain. He was also a doting grandfather to Amber Carey, Wyatt Carey, and Jaxon Cain, and a proud great-grandfather to Vanessa Cole, Izzabella Cole, and Delilah Cole. He also leaves behind his siblings, John “Jack” Cain, Cheryl “Pickles” (Bill) Shillcut, and Gary (Peggy) Cain. brother-in-law Bob Scripter
As we reflect on Jim's life, we remember those who awaited him in the light of Heaven. He was welcomed by his beloved mother, Stella (Hollar) Cain; father, John Stevenson Cain; and his infant sister, Suzanne Cain; his brother, Neldon Cain and sister-in-law, Rita Cain. He also joins his brothers—Mark Cain, Loren Cain, Duane Cain, and his sisters—Jeannie Brown, Darlene King, Vicky Anspaugh, Susan Anspaugh, and Laura "Sis" Scripter; sisters-in-law Doris Cain, Debbie Cain and brother-in-law Paul Brown.
