Jerry Lee Onnen

Jerry Lee Onnen, 76, Topeka, died Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Stormont-Vail Hospital. He was born July 15, 1939, at Fort Dodge, IA, the son of Gerald Theodore and Louise Anna Augusta (Friedrichs) Onnen.

He graduated from Menlo Atherton High School (Menlo Park, CA). He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1962. He was discharged from Forbes A.F.B. in Topeka and then moved to California. His employments included: 1962-1968 Varian Associates, Palo Alto,CA, as an electronics technician; 1968-1977 Mardix Security Systems, Mountain View, CA, as Vice President, Manufacturing; 1977-1980 moved to Topeka as Kentron International program manager, USPS Central Repair Facility; 1986-2003 U.S. Postal Service Program Manager, Automation Logistics; retiring in 2003.

He was married to Emma "June" Waetzig on December 2, 1960, at Carbondale.

Surviving are his wife, June, of the home: daughter: Penny L. Anderson (Paul) of Topeka; sons: Gregory T. Onnen (Dawn) of Topeka, and Terry E. Onnen (Liana) of Topeka; his mother: Louise Onnen of Albuquerque, NM; sister: Jeannette Grundstrom (Doug) of Albuquerque, NM; ten grandchildren: Ryan Anderson (Jami) of Topeka, Nikki Winrick (Shane) of Topeka, Heather Pekrul (David) of Kansas City, KS, Sean Anderson (Jackie) of Topeka, Candace Mo (Jovent) of Singapore, April Onnen of Topeka, Shannon Anderson of Topeka, Justine Onnen of Topeka, Kameron Onnen of Topeka, and Brandon Onnen of Topeka; and seven great-grandchildren: Elliot, Zacchaeus, Cobey, J.J., Channing, Nash, and Preslee.

Private graveside services will be in Prairie Home Cemetery, NW 35th & Menoken Road, Topeka.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead Road, Topeka, KS 66604.
