Jerry L. Godfrey, 74, of Valley Falls passed away on November 20 2023. He was born on February 28, 1949 at Topeka the son of James Godfrey and Wilma Falley Godfrey. He was raised in Valley Falls and soon after High School enlisted in the United States Army. He served in the 35th Armor Division as a gunner on a M60 tank during Vietnam and was stationed overseas in Germany. He served later in the Kansas National Guard with the 35th Infantry as a Tanker and trained at Fort Riley. He attended Northwest Technical College in Goodland, Kansas and became an expert at vehicle paint and body repairs. He worked for several car dealerships and body shops in Topeka and was well known for his meticulous work. He later opened his own trucking and towing businesses. He also worked and retired as a Semi-driver for AAFES (Army Airforce Exchange). He took a lot of pride in his work and loved his country and family.
Jerry enjoyed fishing,working on old cars, the Chiefs, KU basketball, and Indian Motorcycles.
He met and married the love of his life, Jill Carrithers. They were married in Johnson, Kansas on June 19, 1971. She survives.
Other survivors include his children, Heath Godfrey of Topeka; Amy Gaither and husband Brian of Meriden and Kody Godfrey of Valley Falls; nine grandchildren, Devan, Andy, Keaton (Gaither), Viktor, Richard (Massey), Seth, April, Shellbe and Cameron (Godfrey); four great grandchildren, Joshua, Allison, Emma and Hayden.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson County Humane Society in Valley Falls. Cremation is planned. A private memorial service will be held later. www.davidsonfuneral.com
