Janie “Paulette” Broadbent, 75, of Topeka, Kansas died on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Topeka, KS. She was born February 24, 1947 in Holcomb, Missouri, the daughter of Herman and Mae “Alfreda” Shultz.
In April of 1999 Larry had the fortunate opportunity of meeting Paulette on the internet, and through contacts on the internet they met for the first time at Springfield, Missouri. After a whirlwind courtship, mostly by telephone, they married four months after first contacting her in April, on August 9, 1999 in Topeka. Larry survives at their home.
Paulette graduated from Gideon High School in Gideon, Missouri in 1965. She married Richard Thomas Blake on October 1, 1966 and Richard Todd Blake was added to this union on December 17, 1968. Her husband Richard Thomas was killed in the Vietnam conflict on July 29, 1969. Paulette worked for Falcon Communications in Malden, Missouri as an accounts payable and payroll clerk, working there 11 years. After moving to Topeka, she briefly worked for the State of Kansas Transportation Department before retiring in September of 2002.
Along with Larry, Paulette is also survived and will greatly be missed by her son, Richard Todd Blake (Hayley) of Burdette, Arkansas; stepson Jeffrey D. Broadbent (Paula) of Bonner Springs, Kansas, a stepdaughter, Joni Sackman (Bruce) of Topeka and stepson Ryan J. Broadbent of Manhattan, Kansas. Very important ones in her life she leaves behind are three grandchildren, Josh Coons (Holly), Trevor Blake (Adriann) and Sydney Rhodes (Dylan), six step grandchildren, Justin and Jake Broadbent, Jamie Hamm (Spencer), Julie Abernethy (Chase), Jordan Imhof (Curtis), Jenna Sackman, Blake and Ben Sullivan; seven great grandchildren, Caleb and Garret Coons, Conner, Paisley, Daxton and Dayson Rhodes and Hadlee Blake; six step great-grandchildren, Kobe and Parker Imhof, Mollee, Knox and Hayes Abernethy and Porter Hamm; one sister, Judy E. Alexander of Jackson, Missouri and many nieces step nieces, and nephews and step nephews,
Paulette was preceded in death by mother and father, her brother, William Edward Shultz.
Mrs. Broadbent’s wish was to be cremated. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Davidson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am prior to funeral service. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
