Janice Woods

Janice Woods, 64, of Overbrook, passed away on May 29, 2017.   Janices’ parents, her father Kenneth Powlas from Wisconsin and mother Margaret, from Oklahoma met at Haskell. Janice was born November 12, 1952 in Kansas City, Missouri   Janice graduated from Turner High School in 1970.   She attended Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence and received a BS in Education.

She married Mike Downs in Kansas City, Kansas.   She raised her family at Louisburg, Kansas Janice and Mike were married 25 years.   She later married Guy Woods in 2002. She and Guy moved to Hohenwold, TN for a couple of years.   Guy’s poor health resulted in them moving near his family at Fairfax, Missouri, north of St. Joe. After Guy died she returned to Lawrence and then on to Olathe and finally Overbrook to live at Brookside Manor near one of her sons.

Survivors include three sons, Kevin Downs and Dyann of Stillwell, Kansas, Eric Downs and Molly of Drexel Missouri and Kris Downs and Shade` of Overbrook, KS; thirteen grandchildren; brothers, Mitch Powlas of Everett, Washington, and Rusty Powlas of Prairie Village, Kansas; two sisters, Ramona Shull of Kansas City, Missouri and Tammy Powlas of Annandale, Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Wyatt Powlas on November 11, 2016.
