Janet LaVonne Terrell, 72, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2007 at home.
Jan was born January 26, 1936 in Valley Falls, KS, the daughter of Leon K. and Mary Jo (Shermer) Robertson. Jan was a 1954 graduate of Highland Park High School and attended some college classes. Jan was employed as a secretary for the Kansas Legislature. After the death of her husband, she lovingly cared for children at Kinder Care. Jan later worked as a medical secretary for the V.A. Hospital in Topeka before she retired.
Jan was member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Jan was member and past vice-president of Zeta Beta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. Jan was also a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader.
Jan married Gary R. Terrell on April 7, 1955 in Topeka. They were passionate about round dancing. Gary, former co-owner of Topeka Radiator & Body Works, preceded her in death in March of 1981. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her son, Kevin L. Terrell of Topeka; her daughter, Kimberlee J. Baum, and her husband, Timothy of Topeka; her sister, Mel James, and her husband, Bill of Topeka; 4 grandchildren, Zachary, Shannon, Schuyler, and Samantha; and 4 great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Jonathan, Elly, and Alexis.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Monday, June 30, 2008 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence. Mrs. Terrell will lie in state after 3 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
