James Edward Stone

James Edward Stone, 79, Topeka, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center. Jim's physical presence will be missed greatly, but we are all blessed by his loving spirit, which will live on through us. He was born June 10, 1925, in Springfield, MO, the son of Edward N. and Glenna E. McIntire Stone. He was a beloved husband to Doreen Joan, and a special brother to Mollie Ferrell, Atlantic, IA; Barbara K. Herndon, Springfield, Mo.; and Sharon Stone, New York, NY. Other survivors include children, Cheryl Eason, James Jr., Jeannine and David Stone of California; and Mark Stone,Steve and Rick Hudkins of Topeka; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. His parents and Cheryl's son, Kenneth Goding, preceded him in death. Jim served in the U.S. Navy from July 1943 to April 1946 aboard the USS Onslow. He retired as a master plumber after 28 years at Latta Whitlow Plumbing. He was a lifetime member of the Order of Demo lay, Past Master and perpetual lifetime member of Golden Rule Lodge No. 90, and Scottish Rite, a member of York Rite and Arab Shrine Temple. He held membership in Delia Lodge No. 419, Daylight Lodge No. 454, Euclid Lodge No. 2, F&AM, and was a Past Patron of Eastern Star Helena No. 210. Honors and appointments include the Grand Master's Award, Grand Junior Steward of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of AF&AM of Kansas for 1999-2000, and the St. Augustine Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine. His service included Area Deputy Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of AF&AM of Kansas, and appointment to the Committee of the Kansas Masonic University. He earned the KCCH 32nd Degree - Scottish Rite. His recent community activities included a liquid nutrition program for the elderly, and membership in the Sun Devil unit of the Shrine Temple. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Seaman Congregational United Church of Christ, 2036 N.W. Taylor, followed by Mas onic services by Golden Rule Lodge No. 90, AF&AM. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka. Jim will lie in state after 3 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Children's Hospitals, in care of Arab Temple, 1305 S. Kansas Ave., Topeka, KS 66612-1332.
