James A. Starbuck

James A. “Mousie” Starbuck, 80, of Topeka, died Saturday, March 20, 2021 at his home. He was born September 17, 1940 at Saffordville, Chase County, Kansas.   He grew up in Missouri, mostly in the Nevada area.   James married Evelyn I. Lambert on August 12, 1961 in Ottawa.   He moved to Topeka from Kansas City in 1973.   He worked at Payless Shoe Stores Distribution Center for over 34 years before retiring in 2008.   Jim enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, and camping. He especially liked to fish at Melvern and Pomona, where his family often camped out at 110 Mile Creek Park. He collected cars, enjoyed going to swap meets, attending car shows with his son and grandson and working on cars.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Starbuck of Topeka; children, James J. Starbuck and wife Dea of Auburn; Harvey J. Starbuck and wife Tina of Berryton, Scott A. Starbuck and wife Anita of Topeka, and Barbara J. Bigger and husband Dale of Topeka; brother, Arvle Starbuck and wife Ilene of Garnett, Kansas; sisters, Karen Cooper and husband Eddie of Burlington, Kansas, Judy Croan and Blue Mound, Kansas and Esther McClure of Ottawa; his sister-in-law Mary Starbuck of Ottawa; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Mildred Starbuck; his brother, George Starbuck; brother-in-law, Laverne Croan; and great grandson, Darnell Neely.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at Memorial Park Cemetery.   Jim will lie in state at Davidson Funeral Home after 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening.
