James Douglas Arms
Doug died Jan. 23, 2009 at Select Hospital in Topeka, KS after fighting a long illness. He was born Feb. 6, 1934 in Robertson County, TN to Willard and Lula Belle Brooksher Arms. He served in the Army from 1956-1958, spending one year in Korea. After coming to Kansas in 1958, he and Janice J. Bergsten were married in 1963 and lived in Topeka for the past 45 years. He retired from Cargil Milling after 30 years.
He is survived by his wife Jan Arms, of the home; Children, Wade (Anda) Arms, Paxico; Amy (Vince) Kutzke, Topeka; Jason (Kari) Arms, Bonner Springs; Grandchildren, Trisha May, Kayli, Jaren, Jesse; Sister, Maxine (James) Shelton, Clarksville, TN; and many nieces and nephews.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Louise Hoolihan and Barbara Ann Ford and brother Donnie Arms.
Doug will be missed by many friends who gathered at the Kwik Shop in the Oakland area daily. His hobbies were tractors, fishing, hunting, gardening and growing sweet corn, watermelon and tomatoes.
Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wed. Jan. 28, 2009 at Brookwood Covenant Church 3601 SW 33rd Topeka, KS 66614. Doug would prefer bib overalls, jeans or casual dress be worn to his service. Friends may call at the family's home any time prior to the date of service. Memorial contributions may be sent to the church, Heartland Hospice 2231 SW Wanamaker Rd. Topeka, KS 66614 or the D.A.V.
